News Release: Texting While Driving

Topic: Police Victim Services of British Columbia (PVSBC) & BC Crime Prevention Association (BCCPA) invite SFU Students to “Take the Pledge” and promote the fact that Distracted Driving and Texting Kills.

September 04, 2013 at Simon Fraser University, PVSBC & BCCPA will further promote their campaign to raise awareness against distracted driving with an emphasis on how dangerous texting while driving is. Each person who completes a pledge form will receive a thumb band that reads “Texting Kills.”

• Texting while driving is equal to driving after drinking 4 beers.

• You are 23 times more likely to crash when texting.

• 5 Seconds of Texting at 80 KMS per hour is 300ft of missed road.

• 28% of accidents are Text related.

• 11 teens are killed every day from Texting while driving.
